Our Highlights at Insomnia 70 | Blogs | GT Omega

April 2023 marked our return to live events, and what better way to kick it off than with one of the UK’s biggest and best: Insomnia Gaming Festival.

It has been 5 years since we last exhibited at Insomnia and the weekend itself felt like a new beginning, as well as a return to a much-loved fixture of our year. With over 200 GT Omega gaming chairs ready to go, we descended on the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham intent on making it a weekend to remember. And what a weekend it was…

One of the best parts of being at events like i70 is that we get to give people a real, hands-on (butt-on?) experience of our products and i70 was special as it let us show off so many new products and accessories for the very first time.

Our Zephyr Series Gaming Chair, Xayo Ergonomic Office Chair and Prime Cockpit equipped with our new RS12 Racing Seat took centre stage at the GT Omega stand. The reception to them was nothing short of incredible. We spent our days catching reactions to how soft the fabric for the Zephyr is, seeing faces light up as they discovered the Automatic Posture Adjustment system on the Xayo and indulging in the smiles and laughter of our visitors as they got to grips with the Prime Cockpit and MOZA Racing Equipment.

Brands Hatch is one of our absolute favourite circuits and we loved introducing it to so many first-time racers. As much as we would like to say we guided everyone gracefully around that notorious first turn we secretly took great pleasure in watching folk throw themselves round it with the elegance of a drunk elephant.

Each day we hosted a fastest lap competition and it got much more heated than we expected. The winner of each day picked themselves up one of our unique GT Omega Trophies. Congratulations again to all the winners and thank you to everyone who took part over the weekend.

Editor’s note: Our top staff time remained unbeaten the entire weekend. Someone beat Chris next time, so we don’t have to hear about it anymore. Please.

We gave visitors at our stand the opportunity to let loose on a blank Zephyr Seat during i70. The set up was simple, sign up to our mailing list, Scribble something on the seat and be in with a chance of winning a chair for yourself. As a bonus, for every person who signed up to our mailing list during the event GT Omega would donate £1 on their behalf to Special E f fect. Amazingly, we managed to avoid any non-PG Scribbles and successfully raised hundreds of pounds for a terrific charity.

Having people come back throughout the weekend to check on the progress of the Scribble Seat and hearing the stories behind some of the doodles was an unexpected reward for us at i70 and it’s one we look forward to experiencing at future events. Everyone who visited poured a little bit of themselves into that chair, and even now you can FEEL the energy bleeding from it in multi-coloured splendour.

A range of GT Omega gaming chairs found a home far and wide across i70. With over 200 chairs out in the wild it was impossible to turn a corner without bumping into one of our little pieces of portable paradise.

Multiple stages across insomnia 70 featured our equipment. The Insomnia E-Sports stage hosted teams throughout the weekend and pitted them against one another in complete comfort from our Red and Black Zephyr series chairs.

The National Students Esports stage saw some of the countries best university teams battle it out on our classic Black Pro Series chairs.

Cherry Red and Sombre Teal Zephyrs were the chairs of choice for the Insomnia Main Stage. A comfortable and eye-catching home for many of the events guests.

The Insomnia Streamer Section saw an array of seats available. A perfect fit for many of the exhibitions amazing content creators who broadcast to their fans followers live from the event. There was even one of our Xayo chairs on the Monster streaming set up!

Gamers who opted in for the VIP experience at the BYOC were treated to one of our Pro Series Chairs for the weekend and were also gifted one of our GT Omega Backpacks.

Visitors will have had the opportunity to enjoy our chairs while playing some games at the Indie section. There were so many great games available to play and I can’t wait to get my hands on a few of them when they are fully available. As well as this we had some of our Zephyr series chairs on the nearby Pringles stand. Normally we wouldn’t be fans of getting crumbs over our chairs but we’ll make an exception for Pringles.

When it comes down to it, the real goal for us at any event like i70 is simply getting to meet and chat with as many people as possible.

We had the chance to catch up with old friends we hadn't seen in a long time. We met with former colleagues, business partners, and many customers, new and old. Sharing memories and updates on our lives, careers, and hobbies.

We encountered so many people from all over the world who share that same passion we do for gaming and it’s thanks to events like Insomnia Gaming Festival that we get to do that more often.

We want to give a special thanks to Mister J45 (@J45salt)himself for hanging out with us through the weekend and helping carry us to a resounding loss at the famous Insomnia pub quiz. We’ll get them next time.
